design approach

Whether developing a new course, or recapturing the character of an existing course through renovation, each project is an adventure of grand scale to be managed respectfully. The design development process begins with a discussion of goals and objectives, and a complete understanding of the challenges and opportunities inherent in a particular site. A thorough evaluation of regulatory responsibilities is also conducted, ensuring environmental stewardship.

For new courses we walk the property and study existing topographical and aerial photography to find the inherent character of the landscape before developing a hand-crafted routing. This routing is massaged to embrace environmental elements, any local design requirements and our continuing relationship with the site. We work closely with the Client to establish a product style that meets the needs of the market being served as well as the overall vision for the golf course. Once all of these design issues are managed with careful thought and the course layout and holes match the character of the land, the finalized routing is then expanded into a set of computer-assisted design (AutoCAD) construction documents from which the course will be built.
