The Club at River Oaks - Sherman, Connecticut
The Club at River Oaks designed by Robert McNeil and opened in the summer of 2003 rests comfortably along the banks of the Housatonic River. Creatively responding to a variety of environmental challenges, the layout embraces the natural topography and vistas inherent in the site. The Club has received exceptional reviews as a quality test of championship golf.
The design of the course was truly site specific as the ownership directed the facility to be routed within the confines of an existing residential road system that had been abandoned, but would be reused for the homes to be built around the course. The property also had over 3000’ of frontage along the Housatonic River. This wonderful natural element offered the strategy and framing for some great holes, but also engaged our creativity in response to numerous environmental restrictions. Our team worked extensively with the local inland wetlands commission to softly layout and construct the 6 “Riverbend” holes. The cooperative effort included nearly 40 meetings with local officials to adjust the routing and fit the holes within the required buffers. www.clubriveroaks.com
